Magic Ventures, a Dutch company is developing a new product of electric fired Injera Mitad. This product is aimed at significantly upgrade the energy performance as compared with the commonly used technology. The Dutch and Ethiopian teams involved in the development process have introduced their products to the Authority which is not yet available in the market. When an official request is made by the manufacturer, an energy efficiency test will be performed on the product by Ethiopian Energy Authority.
Electric Injera Mitad is one of the most used household electrical energy using appliance in Ethiopia. Studies made on the product indicate that electric Mitad consumes 60% of power demand of domestic electrical energy in a typical household. On the average the conventional Mitad of 55 to 60 Centimeter Diameter has installed capacity between 3.5 to 4.5 kW. As the research indicated, the core problem of existing electric Mitad is the low energy efficiency and the related old traditional clay product technology used.
To minimize energy loss caused by electric mitad Ethiopian Energy Authority has implement energy efficiency labeling program. With this program the authority encaged manufacturers and researchers to make improvement to this product. New technologies and innovation create consumers to choose more efficient products and also create competition among manufacturers to produce and market the most energy efficient models, which engages retailers in promoting efficiency.
